Overview

The Department of Gastroenterology was established at PIMS in November, 1986. Its component includes an Outpatient department, Endoscopy Unit, Indoor ward i-e Medical Ward- 3 with 32 beds and a computer room for research and academic activities. The department staff includes Dr.Mashhood Ali as Head of Department, Assistant Professor Dr.Amir Saleem, Senior Registrar Dr. Niaz Bakhtiar and Dr.Hyder Wajid Abbasi, Dr.Shujaat Hussain, Dr. Imran Yousaf, Dr.Sanaullah Khan, Dr.Taimoor Hafeez Janjua working as departmental Registrars. The other staff includes Medical officers, Post graduate residents and House officers.

The Department was recognized for post graduate training in Gastroenterology, in June 1994.Postgraduate Training is being offered in both FCPS Gastroenterology and MD Gastroenterology. It is equipped with latest diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies facilities including Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP diagnostic & therapeutic and Sclerotherapy and Band ligation of Esophageal Varices, Polypectomy, Esophageal dilatation for strictures and achalasia cardia and foreign body removal. Balloon dilatation of pyloric,colonicand esophageal strictures,esophageal,duodenal and colonic stent placement. PEG tube placement,cautry and hemoclip application of bleeding ulcers.
