History & Japanese collaboration
Constructed under a turnkey Japanese grant assistance program, the MCH Center was formally established and handed over in 1999 (with initial technical cooperation initiated in 1996) as a gift from the people of Japan to Pakistan.
Built in close partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and tied to the Project-Type Technical Cooperation (PTTC) for Safe Motherhood, the facility was designed as a modern center of excellence to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality, retrain healthcare professionals, and serve as a model hub for maternal health in the region.
Spanning over 10,000 square meters, the center operates comprehensive inpatient and outpatient departments, emergency units, operation theaters, critical care units, a dedicated Midway House, and specialized academic/training facilities.
