Besides being the first hospital in Pakistan to offer a specialized Rheumatology service. This department has been on the fore front of efforts at accredited postgraduate training for this specialty in Pakistan.

This department is one of the few in the country that are recognized for postgraduate training in Rheumatology. The College of Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan has granted accreditation to us for FCPS (Rheumatology).The first batch was inducted in July 2009.This is a two-year training programme for which the entry requirement is the possession of FCPS (Medicine) or equivalent.The first few specialists in Rheumatology after qualifying FCPS were trained in this department. Many more are in the training phase.

We also offer a six years MD Rheumatology programmeat the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University. The details of the programme can be obtained from the University website and from the university registrar's office.

Resident’s details:

The department of Rheumatology at PIMS was the first department in Pakistan to be recognized for training postgraduate trainee in Rheumatology by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. Besides having produced the first ever FCPS trainee in Pakistan, it also has the credit of producing the maximum number of trainees by any single department in the country. Since MD Rheumatology program spreads over six years, its first batch of MD Rheumatology is likely to pass out in 2020. Presently the department has eight trainees (4 MD and 4 FCPS). Each year two new MD and two new FCPS trainees are inducted. We hope to increase this capacity in the near future. Details of the residents presently working in the department is as under.
